FEA on an Aircraft Wing:




A uniform tubular spar approximates the structural dynamic model of a wing. The vertical bending of the spar is of interest in this problem.

Wing assumed properties: 

  • Young's Modulus E = 69 GPa 
  • Area = 0.06 m2 , Radius = 138.2 mm
  • Length = 15m
  • Density (Aluminum) = 2700 kg/m3
A 3D design of the tubular structure: 



A tetrahedron mesh is applied, using a mesh size of 50mm and an absolute sag of 15mm:

Initial analysis is done based on a static step, using a load of 5000N:


Now, a frequency response analysis is conducted to find the natural frequencies at different modes (30 modes):
